Personal Narrative:

Writers Institute

In NIA/Writers Institute,
I sharpened my writing skills.
I enrolled in their correspondence course
while at home when I was ill.

Part 1 trained me Journalism,
Part 2 taught me a specialty.
Since I enjoyed writing verses,
I chose to specialize in Poetry.

The assignments were interesting,
they helped me to shape and define my thoughts.
My optional stories were published
due to the text that I was taught.

To write clearly and concisely
will most often satisfy.
But not if you do not include
the who, what, where, when and why.

The training in Poetry Writing
enhanced my abilities.
Through the principles, forms and meters,
I can express myself diversely.

I was challenged to try my hand at
writing light verse, greeting card and song;
and was pleased by my editor's comments of:
"Fine job," "Well done," and "Strong."

Although I was a confessed procrastinator,
God blessed me to complete the course
at home.
And I submitted as my last assignment
this personalized NIA quatrain poem.
